A Lyric Fantasy

Behind the Scenes at the Paris Opera
As a child, Dorothée de Monfreid spent hours listening to her favorite record, L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, with a libretto by Colette and music by Maurice Ravel.
She tells the story of how, in the aftermath of the First World War, these two artists—so different in temperament—came together to create this “lyric fantasy.” At the same time, she offers a reportage on the Paris Opera’s 2023 production of the same work.
